Noted Carnatic singers, the Bombay Sisters, will receive the title of Isai Pearignar of the Tamil Isai Sangam in December this year. The Tamil Isai Sangam made the announcement in Chennai on November 7, 2006.
The sisters – C Saroja and C Lalitha – learnt music from vidwans in their early days and later went through rigorous training under Isai Perarignar Musiri Subramanya Iyer and from the music stalwart T K Govinda Rao. The sisters have performed in various cities in India and abroad.
The sisters perform special music concerts on Thiruppugazh, Thiruppaavai, Thiruvembaavai and Divyaprabhandam.
The Tamil Isai Sangam award will be presented by Uttar Pradesh Governor T V Rajeshwar at a function to be held at the Rajah Annamalai Hall in Chennai on December 21, 2006, the inaugural day of the 64th Annual Tamil Music Festival of the Tamil Isai Sangam.
The award will consist of a gold medal, a silver citation plaque and a cash component.
